Creativity course Project
Road Tear Project
In this project a big goal is to be creative and innovative. The purpose is to create something that will make Karlskrona more resilient against potentially longer and colder winter that will generate in increased road tear due to the use of studded tires and road salt/sand. The project is done according to the MACRO process.

Tools
During the project the group has utilized several tools for idea generation, needfinding, prototyping and idea selection. The tools has been provided to the group from several earlier courses. We have used tools such as: rapid prototyping, grand tour interviews, six thinking hats and more. In the picture to the left, the problem tree analysis is shown.
Project
During the project, multiple ideas came up, the one that stood out from the others was tires with retractable studs. It was the one that resulted in the highest score when using the six thinking hats method, with both positive aspects from when in use as well as sustainability aspects. To the right you can see the idea selection tool, the six thinking hats sheet.

Rapid Prototype
The result of the project is a tire with retractable studs. The studs will eject and increase road traction when needed. The studs are connected to the ABS and ESC from the car and ejects when needed with the help from electromagnets.
Storyboard prototype
Here is a quick storyboard prototype of the ejectable studs and how they will work when driving on a patch of ice.

Final Prototype
This is the result from the project. The final prototype was made using pencils to mimic the eject function for the studs. This solution is good from both an environmental and a road tear perspective. Since the studs will only deploy once they are needed, the municipality will not have to plow and use as much road salt during the winter and since the use of studs will reduce, the road will take less wear.
Business model canvas
A business model canvas was made for the new concept. In the business model canvas you can see potential collaborations, costs, revenues, value propositions etc.

Bio
Hi! My name is Eric Liljedahl and I am right now studying the fifth year of mechanical engineering at Blekinge Institute of Technology. My focus right now is directed towards product development and sustainability. I have in the past been working with several different companies and project. Right now I am working with Blue science park with E-health and also, in another project that is about road tear during the winter.
